Enhancing Civic Engagement Through Youth Advocacy

In the misty hills of Weicherdange, Luxembourg, 40 young changemakers from Luxembourg, Poland, Bulgaria, Spain, Slovakia, Hungary, Turkey, and Romania have come together for a week-long deep dive into youth advocacy, participation, and digital engagement.

Youth advocacy is a driving force in Europe, amplifying young voices in climate action, social justice, policy-making, and beyond. Through “Time to Advocate,” we aim to equip young people with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to influence decision-making at both national and EU levels.

Throughout the week, participants are developing their digital skills, engaging with experts, and exploring the link between volunteering, activism, and democratic participation.

What have we been working on?

  • Exploring youth participation & volunteering in the EU In an online webinar with SALTO Participation, we examined how volunteering and solidarity connect to democratic engagement, featuring discussions with an MEP, European Youth Forum representatives, and researchers.
  • Acting as stakeholders and policymakers, participants simulated a COP conference and negotiated climate policies and reduced the predicted global temperature rise from +3.3°C to +1.5°C
  • An invaluable workshop together with Amnesty Luxembourg where we learned about their work, the importance of it, and looked into 10 people they work with that have been wrongly accused for speaking out. We learned how to take action and wrote letters of support, advocating the rights of the victims.
