Who is the group leader in youth exchanges?

Youth exchanges allow groups of young people from different countries to meet, live together and work on shared projects, using non-formal education through activities such as workshops, exercises, debates, role-plays, outdoor activities and more.

Each youth exchange is composed of different national teams, and each national team has at least 5 participants. In our projects, these participants are 4 young people from 18 to 30 years old and 1 group leader who must be at least 18 years old and without a maximum age limit.

A group leader’s role is to support her/his national team’s participants before, during and after the youth exchange, through the following actions:

BEFORE THE YOUTH EXCHANGE

  • Participate in the Advance Planning Visit, if scheduled.
  • Lead the preparatory meetings with the participants.
  • Ensure the delivery of the task-related preparations, if planned.
  • Be updated about the travel plan of the participants.

AFTER THE YOUTH

EXCHANGE

  • Liaise between the participants and the coordination team.
  • Be responsible about the team’s participation, attendance and deliveries.
  • Guide and evaluate the participants’ learning process through reflection groups.
  • Ensure the team is active in the dissemination and communication process about the project online.

DURING THE YOUTH

EXCHANGE

  • Ensure that one follow up activity (article, workshop, video, etc.) is organised in the following month targeting the local community.

IN CASE THE GROUP LEADER IS ALSO RESPONSIBLE OF THE TRAVEL AND FINANCIAL ASPECTS

  • Consult the coordinator to validate the travel itineraries of the participants.
  • Fill out the travel costs’ reimbursement form with the participants travel expenses.
